Traffic at Lagos Airport as Protest by Farmcraft Centre for the Blind Erupts

A protest by members of the Farmcraft Centre for the Blind brought vehicular movement around Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, to a near standstill on Monday. Demonstrators blocked access roads, causing heavy congestion and leaving scores of travelers stranded.

The gridlock triggered fears of missed flights as many passengers struggled to reach the airport on time. Some resorted to motorbikes, despite a Lagos State ban on certain engine capacities, to bypass traffic bottlenecks and make urgent connections.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that airport operations were significantly affected. In a statement, FAAN advised travelers to check traffic updates, verify flight schedules with airlines, and consider alternative routes to avoid the worst-hit areas.

FAAN apologized for the inconvenience, urging passengers to remain patient while measures were implemented to restore normalcy. The agency assured that efforts were underway to ease movement and limit operational disruptions.

While traffic gradually eased later in the day, the incident underscored the vulnerability of Nigeria’s busiest airport to external disruptions.
