Match Report

Tottenham Hotspurs mounted a great comeback win after going 1-0 down to West Ham United. Spurs were looking for a good showing after their surprise loss to Brighton last time. They had an initial scare when Mohammed Kudus gave the Hammers the lead (’18). The hosts had been saved moments earlier as Guglielmo Vicario pulled off a stunning save to deny the Ghana international. But the Spurs goalkeeper could do nothing to keep out his second effort after latching onto Jarrod Bowen’s cross.

The home fans were left frustrated initially as Tottenham failed to convert the multiple chances they created. But Spurs eventually found the equaliser as Dejan Kulusevski’s shot beat Alphonse Areola before hitting both posts and creeping over the line, much to everyone’s relief. Scoreline 1-1.

The second half produced the best football for Tottenham as they ran away with 3 goals scored in 8 minutes. Spurs had replaced James Maddison with Pape Sarr at the break as Bissouma began their goal-scoring run. Son threaded a ball into the box for Udogie who turned it back for the full-back Bissouma, who made no mistake by striking it in the bottom corner. Two minutes later West Ham’s defense fumbled the ball to give away Tottenham an own goal. Kulusevski lined up Son to shoot from a tight angle and Areola’s save took it into Todibo, who couldn’t do anything to stop it from deflecting in off him. – The scoreline 3-1 Tottenham.

Tottenham pulled off a great counter 5 minutes later to allow Son to get into a one-on-one with Todibo, dribble past him, and beat Areola to score. West Ham got hammered with goals. As they lost the match in the second half. Late into the game, Kudus got a red for altercations with Van de Ven and later Sarr.

Ange Postecoglou would be happy with the dominant victory for Spurs as they set their sights to climb up the league table. West ham will need to regroup and start showing more consistency if they don’t want to stay in the bottom half of the table.
