Tanzania’s Samia Hassan Sworn In as President

Tanzania presidential elections

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan was officially inaugurated for her first full term on Monday in a ceremony held at the national stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Hassan, who rose to the presidency in 2021 following the death of John Magufuli, secured victory in last week’s general election with over 80% of the vote, according to official results released by the National Electoral Commission.

The event drew thousands of supporters dressed in the yellow and green colors of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, along with regional leaders from Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

In her address, the president pledged to prioritize economic growth, infrastructure development, and youth employment while maintaining political stability across the East African nation of roughly 65 million people.

Opposition parties have rejected the election outcome, citing irregularities in voter registration and ballot counting, though international observer missions described the process as largely peaceful.
