Warner Bros.’ Superman, starring David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, surpassed Box Office Pro’s $115 million forecast, earning $217 million globally. The film, directed by James Gunn, debuted at No. 1 in US and Canadian theaters, grossing $122 million domestically.

This blockbuster marks the start of a 10-year DC cinematic plan led by Gunn and Peter Safran. The strategy interweaves films and TV shows featuring iconic characters like Batman and Wonder Woman, aiming to revitalize DC’s cinematic universe.

The film’s success follows Warner Bros.’ strong second quarter, driven by hits like A Minecraft Movie and Sinners. It signals a robust recovery for the studio after earlier struggles, reinforcing its box office dominance.

Superman sets the stage for summer releases like Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Paramount’s Smurfs, and Disney’s Freakier Friday. The film’s strong performance highlights DC’s renewed momentum under Gunn’s creative leadership.

With gripping performances and a bold narrative, Superman redefines the superhero genre. Its opening triumph positions DC to captivate audiences in this ambitious new era.
