SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc has announced the approval of new director appointments by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM). Roland Zwewendpaogré Ouedraogo joins as a Non-Executive Director, while Elie Ogounigni was appointed an Executive Director.
Roland Zwewendpaogré Ouedraogo
Mr. Roland Zwewendpaogré Ouedraogo, is a seasoned insurance and actuarial expert who holds a rich academic background, including:
- A Postgraduate Research Degree (1997) from the University of Ouagadougou
- A Postgraduate Degree in Actuarial Science from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium
- A Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Ouagadougou
He currently serves as the CEO of SUNU Reassurance, the reinsurance arm of the SUNU Group, and has previously held several operational and managerial roles across insurance, IT, and human resources functions.
He is fluent in English, French, and Moore and originally joined SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc as a director on July 23, 2025.
Ouedraogo is also actively involved in the West African insurance landscape, serving as:
- A Board Member of the Association of Insurers of Côte d’Ivoire (ASACI)
- The Vice President of the Professional Association of Insurance Companies in Burkina Faso
Elie Ogounigni
Mr. Elie Ogounigni has been confirmed as an Executive Director responsible for Risk and Control.
He holds:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Bank Administration from Université Abomey-Calavi, Benin (1997)
- A Master’s in Accounting and Finance from DESCF (Academy of Paris), France
- A Chartered Accountant Traineeship Completion Certificate from the French Chartered Accountants Association (OEC), Paris
Since beginning his career as an accountant in 1998, he has risen steadily through the ranks and most recently served as General Manager, Risk and Control at SUNU Assurances Nigeria Plc. He is fluent in English, French, and Yoruba.
