The Senate has suspended its hearing on the Tax Reforms bill following the controversy that has trailed conversations on the bill in the Upper Legislative Chamber.

The bills, under review by the Senate Committee on Finance, have been put on hold to allow further consultations and resolution of the concerns raised.

This is coming after Northern senators requested that the bill be suspended until further consultations on the bill is made.

Announcing the suspension, Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin who made the announcement today during plenary disclosed that a special committee has been constituted to address contentious issues in the bill, with the meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, Dec 5th.

“It has been agreed by the executive and also by us that there should be a forum where we will sit with the Attorney General of the Federation, so that we can look at all the areas of disagreement and resolve them in the interest of this nation.

“It is therefore proposed that by 1pm tomorrow there will be a meeting with the committee that we will set up here.

“It’s on this note that the Committee on Finance that the bills have been referred to will hold action on public hearing and other issues until we resolve these issues”. Senator Jibrin concluded.
