Russia Signals Openness to Ongoing Ukraine Peace Talks With US

Russia says it is willing to hold as many meetings as necessary with the United States to reach a solution to the ongoing Ukraine war, after late-night talks between President Vladimir Putin and senior US officials ended without a breakthrough.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow “is still ready to meet as many times as is needed to reach a peace settlement,” acknowledging efforts by US President Donald Trump’s administration.

Putin met for hours on Tuesday with Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who arrived in Moscow with an updated US peace proposal following earlier discussions between Washington and Kyiv.

Neither side reported progress, with Peskov noting that Russia clearly outlined terms it considers “unacceptable.”

Peskov described the talks as part of a “normal process,” highlighting that it was the first time both sides engaged in a direct exchange of views.

He added that both Washington and Moscow would need to remain discreet if they hope to achieve meaningful progress in negotiations.

Ahead of the meeting, Putin accused European governments of trying to sabotage attempts to end what has become Europe’s worst conflict since World War II.

European leaders have voiced concerns about being sidelined, amid fears that a US-Russia track could reshape the broader diplomatic landscape.

Peskov said European nations “don’t take part in the process because they are still obsessed with the idea of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia.”

His comments underline a widening rift between Moscow and European capitals over how peace efforts should proceed.
