Real Madrid started the game in style with an early goal. Camavinga high pressing up the pitch managed to force a mistake from Beltran who fired his pass straight to him. The ball bounced off him and went straight into the path of Mbappe. The forward had the time to pick his spot and strike a screamer into the top corner to give Los Blancos the lead.
The goal eased some pressure on Real Madrid but Celta played well to create chances. If only Celta had kept a bit more of the ball and eliminated some of their bad passes they could have caused Madrid problems at the back. However, Madrid with Mbappe and Vinicius looked confident in their attack.
The second half began with Celta fans having a cause to celebrate as Swedberg scored the equalizer. Gracia and Bamba played a good one-two down the right wing before Bamba played a perfect pass into the box straight to the feet of Swedberg who was unmarked. He coolly fired the ball past Courtois and into the bottom right corner of the net. Madrid thought they had regained their advantage 2 minutes later when Bellingham passed Mbappe the ball who crossed it to Vinicius to score. Unfortunately, Mbappe timed his run slightly too early and it was ruled offside.
Ten minutes later Madrid finally got ahead with the winning goal. Modric had just been substituted in and he showed his quality by setting up Vinicius superbly for Madrid’s second goal. He played a superb pass in between the Celta defence and Vinicius did the rest with the finish. Celta created a couple of great opportunities during the final plays but couldn’t convert. Thus, giving Real Madrid the victory to continue their 42nd unbeaten match streak.
Carlo Ancelotti has work to do if Real Madrid are going to maintain their unbeaten record at home to Borussia Dortmund in midweek (Champions League football) and then Barcelona in El Classico next weekend.
