Prof. Kamil Omoteso Appointed as Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), UK DVC

Professor Kamil Omoteso has been appointed the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), Education at the Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom effective from January 2025. He succeeds Professor Aletta Norval, who retired after five years in the role.

Before this appointment, Prof. Omoteso was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the College of Business, Law, and Social Sciences for six years at the University of Derby.

Professor Omoteso’s Educational Background

Prof. Omoteso has an academic background an academic background in Accounting and Governance and was educated both in Nigeria and in the UK.

He earned a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos before going further to earn a Masters in Accounting from the university between 1989 and 1998.

He also holds a PhD in Accounting and PG certificate in higher education from De Montfort University in the United Kingdom having been there between 2002 and 2007.

Academic Career

Prof. Omoteso’s academic career began in 2001 at Lagos State University, Nigeria, following six years of professional experience in accounting and auditing roles in both the public and private sector.

He transitioned to De Montfort University, UK, in 2006. Between 2011 and 2013, he served as the principal lecturer & Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Accounting at the same university.

He moved to the Coventry university in 2013 and served as Deputy Head and Acting head of the department of Economics, Finance and Accounting between September 2013 and August 2015. In September 2015, he became the head of the school of Economics, Finance and Accounting, a position he held till May 2018.

Before his latest appointment by the Anglia Ruskin University, Prof. Omoteso was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of College of Business, Law and Social Sciences at the University of Derby between 2018 and December 2024.

What Next?

Professor Omoteso replaces Professor Aletta Norval, who recently retired from the position after five years at ARU and he would be tasked with contributing to the strengthening of ARU’s commitment to excellence in education and inclusivity.

Responding to his appointment, he expressed enthusiasm for contributing to ARU’s mission and working with its dedicated team.
