Prof. Bashiru Olamilekan Emerges New INEC Chairman

According to unconfirmed reports, Prof. Bashiru Olamilekan has been appointed the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) replacing Prof. Mahmood Yakub.

An official confirmation is still being awaited with Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s current tenure set to conclude on December 9, 2025 having been reappointed as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and sworn in for a second five-year term on December 9, 2020.

However, Otega Ogra, a Senior Special Assistant to President has asked that the info be disregarded for now pending official announcement.

“CAVEAT: The Nigerian public should disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman. Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or any other appropriate official source.” He posted on X
