President Bola Tinubu has expressed his appreciation to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for their unanimous support of four crucial Tax Reform Bills currently being considered by the National Assembly. The Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga stated that the President commended the governors for their strong leadership and dedication to national unity.
He focused on their ability to overcome regional and political differences to work together for Nigeria’s progress.
The President praised the “productive consultation” between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy as a positive example of effective cooperation between the Federal and State governments.
Specifically, the President acknowledged the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for his successful efforts in rallying support among his fellow governors for these crucial tax reform bills. The President believes these reforms are essential for revitalizing the national economy and creating a more attractive environment for investment in Nigeria.
The President also expressed his gratitude to the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and all other groups who played a crucial role in achieving bipartisan support for the tax reform bills.
He emphasized that the primary objective of these reforms, which prioritize the needs of the poor, is to serve the best interests of the nation. These reforms aim to enhance Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and attract both domestic and international investments. The President stressed that modernizing the country’s outdated tax laws is crucial for achieving these goals.
He highlighted the dialogue between the NGF and the Presidential Committee as a testament to the power of constructive discussions in resolving disagreements. President Tinubu emphasized the vital role of governors in nation-building and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with them to foster economic growth, national unity, peace, and stability.
The President encouraged all interested parties to participate in the ongoing legislative process at the National Assembly by sharing their ideas and suggestions for improving the Tax Bills.
Finally, he urged the National Assembly to swiftly pass these important bills so that the country can quickly benefit from the reforms.
