Pascal Dozie, Nigerian Business Titan and Diamond Bank Founder, Dies at 84

Pascal Dozie, the renowned Nigerian entrepreneur who established the now-defunct Diamond Bank and served as Chairman of MTN Nigeria, has passed away at 84. Family sources confirmed his death followed a short illness, marking the end of an era for Nigeria’s financial and telecommunications industries.

Born on April 9, 1939, into a Catholic family, Dozie was the son of Charles Dozie, a catechist. He attended Our Lady’s School Emekuku, Holy Ghost Juniorate Seminary, and Holy Ghost College, Owerri, where he earned his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Pursuing advanced studies, he relocated to the UK, securing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics. He later specialized in Operational Research and Industrial Engineering, capping his education with a Master’s degree in Administrative Science from City University in London.

Dozie’s influence on Nigeria’s economy was monumental. He founded Diamond Bank, which eventually merged with Access Bank, and led MTN Nigeria as chairman during its significant growth phase. His contributions earned him widespread admiration. He leaves behind his wife, Chinyere, and their five children.
