OpenAI has officially launched GPT‑5, hailed as its “smartest, fastest, most useful model yet,” just as ChatGPT active weekly  users have surged to over 700 million globally.

GPT‑5 merges the reasoning strengths of its “o‑series” models, GPT‑4o, agent capabilities, and advanced math into a single, powerful engine that delivers faster, more accurate, and structurally sound outputs.

OpenAI highlights faster response times, improved context handling, reduced hallucination, and sophisticated structured thinking, ideal for complex business tasks.

Leading companies including BNY Mellon, California State University, Figma, Intercom, Lowe’s, Morgan Stanley, SoftBank, and T-Mobile have started deploying GPT‑5 across workflows.

Additionally, more than 5 million users now subscribe to ChatGPT’s business products.

Sean Bruich, SVP of AI & Data at Amgen, praised the new model for its enhanced accuracy, reliability, and speed, especially in navigating ambiguous scientific contexts.

Access, API, and Upcoming Tiers

  • ChatGPT Team customers already have access to GPT‑5
  • Enterprise and Edu users will gain access next week.
  • GPT‑5 is available now via the OpenAI API.

Three-Tier Model System + Pro Tier

Variants include GPT‑5, Mini, and Nano, designed for different needs in speed, cost, and reasoning depth. An enhanced GPT‑5 Pro, offering extended reasoning and deeper reliability for advanced use cases, is launching soon.

The launch arrives amid a grand-scale AI investment frenzy, with OpenAI and its backers, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft, projected to spend nearly $400 billion this fiscal year toward AI infrastructure.

OpenAI is reportedly in early discussions for a potential $500 billion valuation, up sharply from its current $300 billion, while top AI researchers are commanding eye-popping $100 million signing bonuses.

Bottom Line

GPT‑5 marks a striking leap forward in AI performance, combining ultra‑fast, accurate reasoning with seamless enterprise integration. As ChatGPT engagement breaks 700 million weekly users, OpenAI strengthens its leadership in AI, moving ever closer to the long-anticipated vision of Artificial General Intelligence.
