The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has revealed that starting in March 2025, all Corps members will begin receiving a monthly allowance of N77,000. This announcement reflects the commitment of both the NYSC and the Federal Government to prioritize the welfare of Corps members. The update was shared during a visit to the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja on Thursday, where the Director General engaged directly with the Corps members.

Emphasis on Welfare and Dedication

Brigadier General Nafiu expressed gratitude to the Corps members for their unwavering dedication and service to Nigeria. He encouraged them to stay patient, committed, and disciplined in their duties.

Highlighting the government’s responsiveness to their needs, he assured them that their well-being remains a top priority. Nafiu also promised that the NYSC would maintain accurate records to ensure timely payment of the new allowance, stating, “Your money will be paid.”

Celebrating the Vision of NYSC

The Director General praised the founders of the NYSC for creating a program that fosters unity and cultural exchange among Nigerian youths. He described the Scheme as a vital platform that connects graduates to diverse communities beyond their hometowns, helping them appreciate the nation’s rich cultural heritage. Nafiu called on all Nigerians to support this initiative, which he believes continues to strengthen national cohesion.

Instilling Values in Corps Members

Nafiu emphasized that the NYSC management is dedicated to nurturing essential qualities in Corps members, such as patriotism, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and moral integrity.

He noted that these values are instilled in every batch of participants, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to society. “NYSC is a beautiful Scheme that builds bridges,” he remarked, underscoring its role in shaping the nation’s future leaders.

Corps Members Express Gratitude

Representing her peers at the Garki Zonal Office, Corps Member Zaka Deborah Alheri (FC/24A/5831) commended the Director General for his tireless efforts in securing the increased allowance.

She expressed appreciation for his leadership and dedication to improving the welfare of Corps members. The announcement has been met with optimism, as it signals a brighter future for those serving under the Scheme.

A Promise of Appreciation

In closing, Brigadier General Nafiu reaffirmed the nation’s gratitude toward Corps members, saying, “The Nation and the Scheme appreciate you.” He assured them that the new N77,000 monthly allowance, effective from March 2025, is a testament to their valued contributions.
