NNPC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment Scams, Says It Is Not Hiring

NNPC recruitment scam

NNPC Limited has issued a public warning alerting Nigerians to fraudulent recruitment messages falsely claiming the company is conducting a hiring exercise.

In a statement posted on its verified social media platforms on Tuesday evening, the national oil company said it is not recruiting and cautioned members of the public against falling victim to employment scams being circulated online and via messaging platforms.

“The general public is hereby informed that NNPC Limited is NOT recruiting,” the company said. “Hiring announcements will be made on our official website and verified social media handles.”

The notice, signed by management, described the circulating recruitment claims as a scam and urged Nigerians to disregard any requests for payment, personal information, or unofficial application links purporting to be from the company.

Rising recruitment scams

Recruitment fraud remains one of the most common forms of online scams in Nigeria, often exploiting the strong public interest in employment opportunities at high-profile government-linked institutions such as NNPC Limited.

Scammers typically impersonate corporate branding, circulate fake offer letters, or demand “processing fees” from unsuspecting applicants — practices NNPC has repeatedly warned against in past advisories.

The company reiterated that all legitimate recruitment exercises are publicly announced, free of charge, and conducted only through its official digital channels.

How to verify genuine NNPC announcements

NNPC Limited advised Nigerians to take the following precautions:

The warning comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with high youth unemployment and economic pressures, conditions that have increased vulnerability to employment-related fraud.

NNPC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unverified sources.
