NNPC Limited has successfully restored the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) in Warri, Delta State following an unexpected explosion on December 10, 2025.
The sections damaged in the explosion has now been fully repaired, pressure-tested, and safely recommissioned.
Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System Explosion
On 10 December 2025, an explosion occurred on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System, one of Nigeria’s most critical natural gas transmission lines.
The incident was reported at about 17:50 hours near the Tebijor, Okpele and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.
The pipeline is operated by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).
According to initial observations by NNPC, the explosion was preceded by a sudden pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment; however, the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.
