The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has launched a strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to train selected NYSC members for a nationwide National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment initiative. This ward-level program aims to expand NIN coverage across Nigeria’s communities, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Announced on June 24, 2025, by NIMC spokesperson Kayode Adegoke, the initiative seeks to make NIN enrolment accessible in every ward, particularly in underserved areas. The partnership leverages the NYSC’s reach to bring identity registration closer to Nigerians and legal residents.

NIMC has already issued NINs to over 120 million individuals, a significant milestone in its mission to provide universal identity coverage. The ward enrolment drive targets remaining populations, especially children under 16, to ensure comprehensive inclusion.

Selected NYSC members are undergoing rigorous training to equip them for the enrolment exercise, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. This initiative underscores NIMC’s commitment to bridging gaps in identity access across rural and urban wards.

The program encourages Nigerians, particularly parents, to register children below 16 for NINs at their local wards. By decentralizing enrolment, NIMC aims to simplify the process and boost participation nationwide.

Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, praised President Tinubu’s unwavering support for the commission’s mandate. She stated, “As an expert journalist with superior writing skills to completely rewrite the provided content into a concise, compelling, insightful, and authoritative article, distinct from the original, while preserving its core message.”

Coker-Odusote also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, and NYSC Director General, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu. Their collaborative efforts have been instrumental in driving this transformative identity initiative.

This NIMC-NYSC partnership marks a pivotal step toward achieving universal NIN enrolment in Nigeria. By empowering youth corps members, the program ensures sustainable, community-driven identity registration for all.
