Nigerian States Generate N612bn in First Half 2020

The 36 Nigerian states and the FCT generated a total of N612.87 billion in the first half of 2020, according to the newly-released Internally Generated Revenue report by the National Bureau of Statistics.
This represents an 11.7% drop from the N693.91 billion recorded within the same period in 2019.
The report also revealed that the second quarter IGR figure hit N259.73 billion, a 26.5% drop from the N353.14 billion recorded in Q1.Additionally, the internally generated revenue for Q2 is a staggering 33.63% year-on-year drop from Q2 2019.

The H1 2020 IGR was generated from six revenue sources: PAYE [N418.22 billion], Direct Assessment [N16.38 billion], Road Taxes [N12.2 billion], Other Taxes [N81.95 billion], Total Tax [N582.76 billion] and MDAs Revenue [N84 billion].

Of all the states, Lagos recorded the highest IGR, with N204.51 billion[33.37% of the overall IGR], followed by Rivers State [N64.59 billion] and the FCT[N35.2 billion].

Meanwhile, Jigawa [N3 billion], Ekiti[N3.2 billion] and Adamawa [N3.75 billion] States had the lowest, figures.
Further analysis show that there is considerable disparity among the states’ share of the IGR.
The top four states alone—Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta—accounted for 54.68% of the total IGR.

Gombe State had the highest year-on-year IG increase with an 81.5% increase from the same half-year period from 2019.
