The Nigeria Police Force has struck a decisive blow against crime, apprehending a female gunrunner, drug traffickers, and arms dealers in a series of tactical operations. These efforts, led by specialized units such as the Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), underscore the force’s unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal networks and safeguard the nation. The arrests, detailed in a press release signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, highlight significant recoveries of ammunition, hard drugs, and weapons destined for bandits and insurgents.

Female Gunrunner Caught with Concealed Ammunition

On December 23, 2024, at approximately 5:50 PM, operatives of FID-STS intercepted Hauwa Sani, a 30-year-old resident of Doro village, along the Keffi/Abuja Expressway. Sani was transporting 124 rounds of live ammunition of various calibres, ingeniously hidden inside a 5-litre container of palm oil.

During interrogation, she confessed that one Nasiru from Daura had tasked her with delivering the ammunition to Katsina State. The police have since made additional arrests and recoveries linked to this case, with investigations ongoing to unravel the full scope of the smuggling operation. Authorities are urging citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious items to security agencies immediately.

Drug Syndicate Busted in Yobe State

In a separate operation on February 1, 2025, FID-STS operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended three suspects; Alhaji Usman Yahaya, 50, Joseph Matthew, 27, and Solomon Bala, 25 all residents of Postiskum, Yobe State.

The trio was caught transporting 30 cartons of codeine syrup and other hard drugs around Postiskum. They admitted that the illicit substances were intended for supply to bandits, Boko Haram insurgents, and kidnappers operating in Yobe State and neighboring countries. This marks a critical disruption of a supply chain fueling terrorism and violent crime in the region.

Arms Dealers Nabbed with AK-47 Rifles

On February 3, 2025, the FID-STS struck again, arresting Yusuf Dantani, 24, Usman Labaran, 32, and Musa Mohammed, 23, in possession of 10 AK-47 rifles. The suspects confessed to engaging in multiple arms deals, revealing they had received N3,980,000 for their most recent batch of weapons. This operation underscores the police’s proactive approach to curbing the proliferation of illegal firearms, supporting terrorism across Nigeria.

A Call to Action for Public Support

The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to rooting out crime and ensuring the safety of all citizens. These operations demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing and the determination to bring perpetrators to justice. ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized the importance of public cooperation, stating,

“We urge the public to continue to support our efforts by providing timely and accurate information that can aid in crime prevention and detection.” As investigations continue, the force remains steadfast in its mission to dismantle criminal enterprises nationwide.
