Although previously reported, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has denied claims of planning a protest.

Previous reports indicate that students were ready to participate in protests in major cities.

The statement called for the resignation of Mele Kyari, the Director General of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and the reversal of the increase in fuel prices.

NANS strongly denies these allegations and labels them as incorrect..

It clarifies it has no intention to initiate a shutdown.

“As the umbrella body representing the interests of Nigerian students, we have always been committed to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders.”

“We understand the critical importance of maintaining peace and stability in our nation, especially during these challenging times. Any actions that could lead to civil unrest or the disruption of public order are not, and will never be, supported by NANSS,” they stated.

The student body reiterates its commitment to handling the challenges Nigerian students face, including the economic impact of the fuel price hike.

They stress that such issues would be tackled through legitimate channels and in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

NANS assures it will continue engaging with officials and stakeholders to find solutions as the situation develops.
