Job Title: Manager – Commercial Regulatory. Corporate Services and Sustainability

Location : Lagos

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports To: Senior Manager – Regulatory Affairs
Division: Corporate Services and Sustainability

 

Mission:

  • Manage commercial regulations concerns, provide regulatory advice on various business issues, develop regulatory inputs to policies and frameworks in the relevant area(s), and manage the future impact of new regulatory policies and legislation on MTN operations.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant government departments, regulatory agencies and industry associations to ensure an enabling environment for MTNN activities

Description:

  • Manage relationships with Regulatory authorities and make presentations to key stakeholders such as Regulatory Agencies, National Assembly and other relevant fora.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry associations and other stakeholders in the telecommunications industry.
  • Monitor and update MTNN on developments, bills, and new policies within the legislative/ regulatory arena and follow up with regulatory authorities on submissions and other regulatory issues.
  • Periodically scan the regulatory environment to identify risks and opportunities and advise the business appropriately.
  • Proactively engage regulatory authorities in developing best practice policies, regulations on consumer affairs, subscriber registration, product pricing, competition, universal service and market practices.
  • Collaborate with relevant divisions to develop inputs and responses to regulatory policies and frameworks, ensuring that MTNN’s interests are taken into account.
  • Support and advise management on licence conditions, licence renewals, variation of existing licenses, and introduction of new licensing frameworks.
  • Influence the telecommunications sector’s competitive policies to attain a level playing field and engage the regulatory authorities to ensure equitable allocation of resources in the industry.
  • Target new revenue/cost saving opportunities arising from competitive or regulatory developments.
  • Advise the organization on possible financial impacts of legislation and regulations.
  • Guide the organization with regards to telecommunication regulations, legislations, license conditions and impact of the proposed regulatory/legislative policies on MTN N’s business.
  • Coach and mentor team members to ensure understanding of the objectives and goals of the team/Unit, awareness of all related job requirements and accountabilities and leverage human resources career development programs for staff career development.
  • Identify, evaluate and track the development needs and performance of the team, providing opportunities for staff to build on the company’s investment in their training and improve productivity.
  • Review the performance of individual team members and complete appraisals in accordance with the employee performance appraisal procedures and time schedules.

Education:

  • Law Degree or related field.
  • Relevant Masters advantageous
  • Relevant certification/accreditation/membership with professional body as required for the role.
  • Excellent command of English – written and oral

Experience:

6 – 13 years’ experience, which includes:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an area of specialization with experience in supervising/managing others
  • In depth experience and understanding of the Nigerian telecommunications industry and regulatory framework
  • Experience in a commercial legal environment, alternatively within a legal & regulatory control body
  • Experience within the telecommunication environment is desirable
