On Monday, February 3, 2025, Mrs. Victoria Abosede Wickliffe officially assumed the role of Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), marking a significant milestone in her administrative career. Her appointment, effective from February 1, 2025, was ratified during the UNILAG Governing Council meeting on December 6, 2024, under the leadership of Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN.
Mrs. Wickliffe holds two Bachelor of Science Honours Degrees from the University of Lagos; one in Biology earned in 1989 and another in Public Administration in 2020. She further enhanced her qualifications with a Professional Master’s degree in Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR) in 1998, also from UNILAG. This robust academic background underpins her expertise in both the scientific and administrative domains.
Before her elevation to Registrar, Mrs. Wickliffe served in various capacities within the university’s administrative structure. Notably, she was the Deputy Registrar and Acting Director of Academic Affairs, roles that prepared her for the complexities of the registrar position. Her tenure in these positions showcased her capability in managing academic affairs, policy implementation, and staff coordination.
Mrs. Wickliffe is an administrator and an active member of several professional bodies, reflecting her commitment to professional growth and community within academia. She is affiliated with the Association of Nigerian Universities Professional Administrators (ANUPA), the Women in Management Association (WIMA) UNILAG Chapter, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Management. These memberships have not only broadened her network but also enriched her understanding of the administrative landscape in higher education.
Upon assuming office, Mrs. Wickliffe took over from Mrs. Olakunle Esther Makinde, who had been serving as Acting Registrar. The transition occurred at the Office of the Registrar on the 5th Floor of the UNILAG Senate House, where activities commenced with a welcoming session for the new Registrar.
Her appointment is for a five-year term. With her background, Mrs. Wickliffe is poised to bring stability, innovation, and focus on enhancing UNILAG’s administrative efficiency.
