Maduka Okoye, Super Eagles of Nigeria and Udinese of Italy goal keeper has found himself caught up in a betting scandal.

According to reports from the Messaggero Veneto, an Italian newspaper, the Udine Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into Okoye for allegedly betting on his own yellow card during a match against Lazio on March 11, 2024.

The incident in question occurred during the 64th minute of the game when Okoye received a yellow card for time-wasting during a goal kick.

Okoye faces accusations of fraud, with prosecutors alleging that he deliberately sought to receive a booking to profit from a bet placed on that specific outcome.

Diego Giordano, the 40-year-old owner of the popular Biffi pizzeria, frequented by Udinese players and staff has also been implicated in the case.

This latest allegations comes in the midst of Okoye’s personal struggles. He has recently had to battle relationship issues, including a breakup with his fiancée and accusations of locking his girlfriend and two-year-old child out of their home.
