Match Report

Barcelona continued their formidable form in La Liga, as they dominated Sevilla to win 5-1. Robert Lewandowski began the goal-scoring spree for Barca as he netted the first goal. It was a penalty awarded to the home side due to Fernandez bringing down Raphinha inside the box. Four minutes later Pedri made it 2-0 for Barcelona. It was all plain sailing for the hosts as Yamal architected the goal. He cut in from the right and passed the ball to Pedri brilliantly through the legs of Kounde. The Barcelona midfielder took the strike and scored with a great finish.

The visiting sides’ turmoil only increased as Lewandowski put Barca further ahead when he steered home Raphinha’s low cross to make it 3-0. Sevilla went into damage limitation mode post the break with Norway shot-stopper Orjan Haskjold Nyland called into action. He proved useful by denying Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal further goal-scoring attempts with great saves. But they could not prevent a fourth Barca goal, when substitute Pablo Torre steered Jules Kounde’s cross into the bottom-left corner to seal the match.

In a huge boost for Hansi Flick’s side, Gavi made his return in the late stages of the match. He made his first appearance post suffering a knee ligament injury in November 2023.

Sevilla got a goal back late on when substitute Idumbo latched onto a long ball and slotted it past Pena. But Torre restored Barca’s four-goal advantage by scoring immediately in the next minute thanks to a free kick.

Barcelona restored their three-point lead over defending champions Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga standings. It was a commanding 5-1 victory over Sevilla at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys — their ninth win from 10 matches this season. Lewandowski’s goals continue to see him stay as the top scorer in La Liga as Hansi Flick’s side will look forward to their El Classico clash next weekend against Real Madrid.
