Onyeka Onwenu, the legendary Nigerian singer and actress, has passed away at the age of 72.
She reportedly died on Tuesday night at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing during a birthday celebration for Mrs Stella Okoli.
The tragic event occurred during Mrs Stella Okoli’s birthday party, where Onwenu had just finished a performance. According to an eyewitness, the atmosphere was filled with joy until the sudden turn of events.
“It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped. She was taken to Reddington Hospital and she couldn’t make it,” the eyewitness reported.
As of now, Onwenu’s family has not officially announced her death. Fans and well-wishers are waiting for more information as they mourn the loss of a national treasure.
