Landmark Group, the operators of the Landmark Beach which was pulled down by the Federal Government to make way for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway have signed a deal with the Enugu State Government to take charge of the Nike Lake resort under a 35-year agreement.
The agreement was signed earlier today at the Enugu State Government House in the presence of stakeholders.
Under the lease agreement, the Landmark Group headed by Paul Onwuanibe would take over the 150-hectare Nike Lake Resort and seek to reposition it as one of Africa’s biggest tourist attractions.
The Nike Lake resort has been a major tourist attraction for years and the deal with Landmark Group is set to elevate it further.
This deal with the Enugu state government follows a similar agreement signed with the secured waterfront land in Port Harcourt, in partnership with the Rivers State Government, to redevelop the once-popular Port Harcourt Tourist Beach into a world-class leisure, hospitality, and tourism destination by Landmark.
These agreements come as Landmark seeks to bounce back from the demolition of its $30billion Lagos resort by the government and more of such partnerships are expected in the coming months.
The Landmark group is the latest investor to be attracted to Enugu state as Governor Peter Mbah scales up his mission to make Enugu state one of the most economically viable states in Nigeria.
In December 2024, Governor Mbah secured a $100 million agreement with a consortium of Austrian investors to enhance water supply in Enugu. This project aims to ensure that residents receive water at minimal cost, addressing long-standing water scarcity issues in the state.
in December 2024, the Enugu State Government entered into a strategic partnership with CWEIC to accelerate trade and investment inflow into the state. This collaboration aligns with Governor Mbah’s vision to expand Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. As part of this partnership, Governor Mbah was named co-chair of the Governors Roundtable at the 2025 Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit in London.
The Governor also recently signed an agreement with the National Sports Commission to host the 2026 National Festival as well as a partnership agreement with the commission to develop Youths and Sports in Enugu state.
