The Lagos State Government has announced an indefinite postponement of the much-anticipated rehabilitation works on the Lekki–Ajah Expressway corridor, originally set to begin on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed that the full-scale rehabilitation project has been deferred to a yet-to-be-announced date.
“While some preliminary activities will continue until the end of November, the actual rehabilitation works will not commence until a new schedule is officially released,” the statement read.
The commissioner did not disclose the reasons behind the sudden postponement but appealed to motorists, residents, and commuters along the ever-busy corridor to bear with the government.
The Lekki–Ajah axis is one of Lagos’ most congested routes, serving as a major gateway to Lekki Free Zone, Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and several high-income residential and commercial estates.
The planned rehabilitation had raised concerns among daily commuters about impending gridlock, but many residents had also expressed hope that the repairs would finally address years of potholes, flooding, and deteriorating road surfaces.
The government reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to upgrading infrastructure and delivering smoother, safer roads across the state.
A new start date for the project will be communicated through official channels as soon as it is finalized.
Motorists have been advised to continue using the corridor normally while expecting further updates from the Ministry of Transportation.
