Lagos State Extends Deadline for 2025 Hajj Fare Payment to February 10

The Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has announced an extension of the payment deadline for the 2025 Hajj. The new deadline for settling the Hajj fare of N8,784,085.59 is now set for February 10, 2025, providing relief to many intending pilgrims who were unable to meet the original deadline of January 31.

This decision was communicated by Mr. Saheed Onipede, the Board Secretary, who emphasized the need for this extension due to the high demand and the challenges faced by the pilgrims in gathering such a significant amount amidst economic hardships. The fare, which was set by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), reflects the costs tailored to different zones, with Lagos falling under the Southern states category.

While congratulating those who have completed their payment and submitted their forms for other official processes and procedures, the board’s scribe urged those who are yet to complete theirs to approach any of the commercial banks and raise a bank draft of N8,784, 085.59k in favour of Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board and submit same with their forms and valid passports on or before the new deadline.

Onipede highlighted that this extension is part of the board’s strategy to ensure that every eligible Muslim in Lagos who wishes to perform the Hajj can do so without undue financial strain. He noted that pilgrims who have already paid the initial deposit of N8.5 million are required to pay an additional N284,085.59 to complete their payment. Those who have only obtained the intention form but haven’t started payments are urged to begin immediately to secure their slots for this year’s pilgrimage.

The Hajj fare for this year varies by region within Nigeria. Pilgrims from Borno and Adamawa will pay N8,327,125.59, while those from other Northern states are expected to pay N8,457,685.59. This regional differentiation in pricing is due to logistical differences and was finalized after approval from the Vice President.

Mr. Onipede also reassured the intending pilgrims that should the actual Hajj fare announced by NAHCON be less than the initial deposit, refunds would be processed accordingly. He empathized with the pilgrims, acknowledging the economic difficulties many are facing, and prayed for divine assistance in their financial preparations for the pilgrimage.

This year’s Hajj exercise is anticipated to be one of the most organized, with the board promising enhanced accommodations near Haram in both Makkah and Madinah, alongside visits to historical sites, ensuring a spiritually enriching and comfortable experience for all participants.
