Lady in Viral Asherkine Video Breaks Silence, Denies Alleged Boyfriend Rumours

Ifeme Rebecca Yoma, the young lady featured in a viral video with popular content creator Asherkine UNN student, has publicly denied claims circulating on social media that she has a boyfriend.

The allegations emerged after a Twitter user identified as Kenedy (Ken) claimed to be her partner, following her outing with popular content creator Asherkine during his recent visit to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu State.

In the video that gained widespread attention, Rebecca responded “no” when asked if she had a boyfriend, a response that sparked controversy after Kennedy took to social media to assert that he was, in fact, her boyfriend.

Rebecca’s Response

In a video posted on Saturday, Rebecca firmly refuted the claims, describing them as false and misleading. “Hello guys, good morning. My name is Ifeme Rebecca Yoma, and I’m here to debunk the whole story that’s been going on about me denying my boyfriend and whatnot. First of all, the name Becky Chinaza, whatever he is using, is not my name. Secondly, I don’t know who this person is, especially the claims directly involving Asherkine UNN student.

“Even the replies on WhatsApp. I don’t speak that kind of English. I’m so innocent of all these accusations… I do not have a boyfriend, and I have never, ever had a boyfriend. Claims made about Asherkine UNN student are false.

“If he is claiming to be my boyfriend, he should bring more evidence and stop going to my TikTok to screenshot videos I have already made and Photoshopping them.” She concluded, reiterating the false association with Asherkine UNN student.

Concerns Over AI and Digital Ethics

The controversy has triggered fresh debate over the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence tools, as some of the materials shared by Ken are suspected to have been manipulated using AI technology.

This incident highlights the urgent need for a regulatory and legal framework around AI use in Nigeria, especially regarding the spread of misinformation using advanced AI tools. There is also growing advocacy for appropriate legal consequences for individuals who engage in such misleading and potentially damaging activities concerning students from UNN like Asherkine.
