The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq swore in the newly elected local government chairpersons and their vices in the state.

The All Progressives Congress candidates had floored all the chairmanship and councillorship positions across all the sixteenth local governments in the election conducted on Saturday.

In a statement signed by his press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye on Monday, the governor tasked the newly sworn-in officials on hard work, stressing the need for them to set realistic goals.

The statement reads in part, “Set realistic goals for yourself. Be conscious of your legacies. Be fair to everyone and to yourself. Attend to the needs of the people, and be open to positive engagements across board.

“Our country is in a transitive phase as our economy undergoes reforms. This has brought some inconveniences for the people. Please be sensitive to the realities of the time. Don’t indulge yourselves while the people struggle to meet basic needs.

“As local government areas and first layer of government, be creative, explore areas of cooperation, and complement yourselves for bigger accomplishments. Importantly, please prove to the people that you truly deserve to occupy this esteemed office.”

However, in a series of reactions trailing the development on social media, several netizens have raised concerns regarding the process, accusing the Abdulrahman-led administration of rigging.

Atobatele wrote, “Wuruwuru government of wuwuwuwu people. But those that have sense among them should know that the governor can not remove him anyhow. So, they should focus on the people’s interests and not that of the top politicians.”

According to Sulyman, “As usual, the previous govt used to swear in their selected party member, and you too copied a bad & undemocratic idea. All that we need is good governance and better representation at the grassroots. Congratulations to you all.”

“Even for wards wey election no hold there you announced your party members as winner God dey”, Anonymous

Halidu Umar, “So quick, are you tired of the local governments?”
