Job Vacancy: Programme Officer

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the world’s largest funding organization dedicated to the international exchange of students and researchers. As a registered association, DAAD comprises members from German higher education institutions and student bodies. The Regional Office in Accra is tasked with fostering academic exchange and cooperation with individuals and institutions in Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria.
Job Description
As a Programme Officer, your responsibilities will include:
- Responding to general inquiries and providing advice on studying and conducting research in Germany, with a special focus on Nigerian clientele.
- Promoting DAAD funding programs and marketing campaigns tailored to Nigeria, which includes managing social media channels, attending events and fairs both in person and virtually, and creating content for the regional newsletter.
- Supporting DAAD Accra’s scholarship programs for Nigerians by organizing and participating in scholarship selection meetings and preparing selected scholarship holders for their stay abroad.
- Gathering and disseminating regional expertise on academic cooperation and the higher education system in Nigeria for a German audience through DAAD publications and events.
- Liaising with DAAD alumni/alumnae and alumni associations, coordinating calls for alumni programs focused on Nigeria.
- Acting as a contact point for Nigerian and German universities, as well as DAAD partner organizations, addressing inquiries, initiating contacts, participating in events, and supporting delegation visits.
- Assisting the office’s director with public relations and press inquiries.
Requirements
- A master’s degree and 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
- Strong understanding of the Nigerian higher education sector; a Nigerian background or work/study experience in Nigeria is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of the German higher education sector; study or work experience in Germany or with a German institution is an advantage.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to work under pressure, and a strong team player.
- Proficient command of English; good command of German is desirable.
- Proficient in MS Office and openness to acquiring further IT skills related to DAAD’s SAP-based programs.
- Must be entitled to live and work in Ghana and willing to travel to Nigeria regularly.
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with a six-month probationary period. Payment will be based on DAAD’s local pay scale, starting at GHS 16,131 (gross monthly salary). The salary level may be adjusted based on relevant qualifications and professional experience.
