Jesutega Onokpasa, a distinguished Nigerian lawyer and fiery political commentator, has passed away, leaving a void in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Nigeria’s political landscape.

The prominent APC figure died on Monday, June 9, 2025, as confirmed by Okezie Atani, a pro-APC advocate, in a heartfelt post on X.

Atani announced, “We lost Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa, may his soul rest in perfect peace,” noting that Onokpasa is survived by his wife and children.

Details surrounding the cause of Onokpasa’s death remain undisclosed as of June 10, 2025, fueling speculation and grief among his followers.

Known for his incisive political commentary, Onokpasa was a key member of the APC’s Publicity Committee and a pivotal figure in the party’s 2023 Presidential Campaign Council.

His national prominence surged in 2024 after a viral confrontation with Arise News host Rufai Oseni, cementing his reputation as a fierce defender of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

However, in a striking shift earlier this year, Onokpasa publicly withdrew support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, despite remaining an APC member.

He cited escalating insecurity, crippling economic challenges, and the administration’s alleged neglect of loyal party members as reasons for his disillusionment.

This bold stance marked a dramatic departure from his earlier role as one of Tinubu’s most vocal champions, sparking widespread debate.

Onokpasa’s critiques highlighted deepening concerns about Nigeria’s governance, resonating with citizens grappling with economic hardship and security issues.

His passing has triggered an outpouring of tributes from political allies, colleagues, and the public, many expressing shock and sorrow.

As a lawyer, Onokpasa brought legal acumen to his political advocacy, shaping discourse within Nigeria’s ruling party.

His contributions to the APC’s 2023 campaign were instrumental in mobilizing support for Tinubu’s presidential victory.

Yet, his later criticisms underscored a growing rift within the APC, reflecting broader discontent with Nigeria’s leadership.

The news of his death has dominated social media, with hashtags like #JesutegaOnokpasa and #APCMourns trending on X.

Colleagues describe him as a passionate, outspoken figure whose voice shaped Nigeria’s political narrative.

Onokpasa’s legacy as a lawyer, commentator, and APC stalwart will endure, even as his critiques of Tinubu’s administration linger in public memory.
