JAMB Warns of Fraudulent Messages Targeting 2025 UTME Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued an urgent alert to the public regarding fraudulent messages targeting candidates registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

These deceptive communications, circulated by suspected fraudsters, aim to mislead and defraud unsuspecting individuals.

The perpetrators have manipulated JAMB’s numerical UTME variant, 8863, and combined it with the Board’s sort code, 55019, to create a fake sort code that imitates JAMB’s official messaging system.

Through this scam, fraudsters send misleading messages to candidates, falsely claiming to have detected manipulations in their JAMB details.

These messages urge candidates to contact specific individuals who allegedly offer assistance in resolving these fabricated issues.

JAMB has categorically stated that these messages do not originate from the Board.

Security agencies have been informed and are actively pursuing the culprits behind this fraudulent scheme.

Candidates are strongly advised to disregard such messages, which are part of a common tactic used by scammers to exploit the examination period.

Fraudsters often target this time to deceive and defraud innocent candidates, taking advantage of their anxiety and trust.

JAMB urges the public to remain vigilant and critically evaluate all received messages.

Any communication that deviates from JAMB’s official channels or contains suspicious language or instructions should be considered fraudulent.

Fabian Benjamin, Ph.D., Principal Communication Advisor for JAMB, emphasized the importance of relying solely on verified information from the Board.

This warning comes as part of JAMB’s ongoing efforts to protect candidates from scams during the 2025 UTME registration and examination process.

By staying informed and cautious, candidates can safeguard themselves against falling victim to these criminal schemes.

For official updates and communications, candidates should refer only to JAMB’s verified platforms and channels.
