The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated that the registration window for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which opened on February 3, will close as scheduled on March 8, 2025. With no plans to extend the deadline, the examination body is calling on prospective candidates to act swiftly to secure their spots for the nationwide exercise.
In a statement released by JAMB’s Spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board emphasized that the March 8 cutoff date has been widely publicized through advertisements and the official 2025 UTME calendar. “We wish to inform all prospective candidates that there will be no extension of the registration period,” Dr. Benjamin stated, underscoring the importance of this announcement amid a noticeable drop in registration numbers in recent weeks. He urged individuals planning to take the exam to complete their registration promptly, warning against the risks of procrastination. “Avoid waiting until the last minute,” he advised.
Despite the decline in daily registrations, JAMB reported that over 1.5 million candidates have successfully enrolled for the 2025 UTME as of now. According to Dr. Benjamin, this figure aligns closely with the board’s projections for this year’s examination cycle. The number reflects a robust turnout so far, but the board remains concerned about those yet to register as the deadline approaches.
JAMB explained that its decision to enforce the March 8 deadline stems from a tightly knit schedule that extends beyond registration. “It is essential to note that the Board’s calendar is fixed, with numerous subsequent programmes scheduled after registration,” Dr. Benjamin elaborated. These include the administration of the examinations, results processing, and the admissions exercise—all of which are intricately linked to timelines coordinated with partner agencies. “Extending the registration period would disrupt not only the Board’s plans but also those of our partners,” he added, highlighting the ripple effect any delay could have on the broader tertiary education ecosystem.
With just over a week remaining until the deadline, JAMB is intensifying its call for candidates to finalize their registrations. The board stressed that adhering to the established timeline is critical for ensuring a smooth process for all stakeholders involved. “We encourage candidates to complete their registration as soon as possible,” Dr. Benjamin reiterated, reinforcing the need for urgency.
As the clock ticks down to March 8, prospective UTME participants are advised to visit accredited registration centers and complete the necessary steps without delay. JAMB’s firm stance on the deadline serves as a reminder of the importance of planning ahead for one of Nigeria’s most significant academic milestones.
