Ijesa kingmakers have announced Prince Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, former Deputy Governor of Osun State, as the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland. His selection heralds a new chapter in the storied history of one of Osun State’s most prominent traditional institutions.

Born on September 19, 1948, into the royal Ajimoko family of Ijesaland, Prince Haastrup brings to his new role a wealth of experience in public service, business, and philanthropy. He began his education at Eko Boys’ High School (1963–1967) and pursued advanced studies at the Federal School of Science before earning a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Howard University, Washington D.C., in 1974. Upon his return to Nigeria in 1981, he ventured into politics and became Deputy Governor of Osun State in 1990.

After his tenure in public office, Prince Haastrup transitioned into the business world, founding ENL Consortium Limited in 2002. Under his visionary leadership, the company grew into a conglomerate with interests spanning power, port operations, real estate, hospitality, construction, and mining. His contributions to Nigeria’s infrastructure development include collaborations with agencies such as the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

Beyond his business pursuits, Prince Haastrup is a staunch advocate for education and community development. His foundation has awarded scholarships to over 500 students, both locally and internationally, reflecting his commitment to fostering opportunities for the next generation.

His ascension to the throne is expected to bring a blend of modernity and tradition to the leadership of Ijesaland. Known for his Christian faith and philanthropy, Prince Haastrup has consistently attributed his successes to divine guidance, a quality that resonates with the values of the Ijesa people.

As the Owa Obokun Adimula, Prince Haastrup’s tenure is anticipated to focus on uniting the Ijesa community, fostering economic growth, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region. His extensive background in governance, business, and social impact positions him as a leader well-suited to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the modern era while upholding the sacred traditions of Ijesaland.

The coronation ceremony, which will formally install Prince Haastrup as the traditional ruler, is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, marking a historic occasion for the Ijesa people.
