GCI Alumni Generals Olatoye and Fadairo in Command Handover at Nigerian Army’s 82 Division

An alumnus of the Government College, Ibadan, Major General Oluremi Fadairo has officially replaced another Alumnus, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 82 Division Nigerian Army in Enugu.

Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as Commandant, delivered his valedictory address. He lauded his successor, Major General Fadairo, as a distinguished and highly professional senior officer. He expressed confidence that the Division would scale new heights under his leadership.

In his remarks after assuming command, Major General Fadairo expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the trust placed in him and the opportunity to command the Division. He further appreciated the enduring legacy of his predecessor. He pledged to seek his counsel whenever necessary.

The handing and taking over ceremony featured several symbolic moments, which included a farewell address by the outgoing GOC. It also included the signing of official handover documents and the investiture of the new GOC with 82 Division insignia.

Others include the ceremonial presentation of the command flag. It also featured the lowering of the outgoing GOC’s flag and the hoisting of the new command flag at the Quarter Guard. Major General Fadairo’s assumption of command signals a renewed focus on advancing the Division’s mission. It builds on its history of service and professionalism. He gained admission to Government College, Ibadan in 1984 and was a member of Swanston House. Major General Olatoye competed Advanced Levels studies in 1988; he was a Member of Powell House.
