Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has been advised to give Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen a rest ahead of Saturday’s Istanbul derby against Basaksehir.
Turkish sports commentator Veli Yigit made the call, noting that Osimhen appeared fatigued after national team duty with Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Osimhen, 26, scored a hat-trick in Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Benin Republic in Uyo, following another appearance against Lesotho days earlier.
Yigit said the striker’s intense international schedule could affect his sharpness, urging Buruk to manage his workload carefully.
“I don’t think Osimhen should be in the starting eleven for the Başakşehir match. He’s been through a tiring period; he’s tired after national team duty,” Yigit told Habersarikirmizi. “I see Osimhen very happy. His complete focus is on Galatasaray. He no longer has thoughts like ‘Where will I go? What will my contract be like?’ These details are important. I expect a performance beyond the top level from him.”
Yigit’s comments highlight the fine balance Galatasaray must maintain between maintaining form in the Super Lig and protecting one of their most valuable assets.
Osimhen’s recent performances underline his importance, but ensuring his fitness may be crucial for Galatasaray’s title ambitions this season.
