Flutterwave Secures Regulatory License For Cameroon Operations

Flutterwave, one of Nigeria’s biggest technology exports, has secured approval to operate as a licensed payment service provider in Cameroon. The digital payments network recently received the authorisation from Cameroon’s National Payment Systems Department.

This enables Flutterwave to offer its full range of digital payment solutions to businesses and individuals in Central Africa and follows the company’s earlier securing a payment system licence from the Bank of Zambia, enhanced Payment Service Provider licence in Ghana, and a Payment Systems Operator licence from the Bank of Uganda.

Confirming the milestone, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, stated that the new license aligns with the company’s vision. According to him, Cameroon’s dynamic economy and growing digital adoption make it a strategic market for the company’s long-term growth.

“Cameroon holds a central place in the future of Africa’s digital economy, and we’re proud to play a part in unlocking its potential.”

The Cameroon licence also significantly strengthens Flutterwave’s presence in Francophone Africa building upon the company’s earlier partnership with telecoms giant MTN, which allowed merchants in Cameroon to accept mobile money payments through MTN MoMo.

Flutterwave Expansion

Since its launch in 2016, Flutterwave has expanded operations to over 30 African countries, providing payment infrastructure for businesses of all sizes. The company’s platform also powers payments for global merchants, including Uber, Microsoft, and Booking.com.

The approval in Cameroon reflects Flutterwave’s broader regulatory strategy as the company appears to be doubling down on securing country-specific approvals to build trust with regulators, businesses, and consumers.
