#EndSARS: We Can All Become Leaders: Ikhide Ikheloa, Essayist

The #EndSARS movement quite honestly does not need any condescending and patronizing advice from my generation. We have no moral authority, integrity or credibility left to pontificate on strategies, vision, etc. The movement has proved how irrelevant traditional institutions are to meaningful reform, they don’t need the civil society, African writers, the labour unions, theirs is organic and incredibly smart.

They seem to be doing just fine by themselves. If I had any advice for them, it would be to avoid taking advice from anyone over 50, especially from those over 60. We have royally screwed up our nation through a Molotov cocktail of cowardice, greed and rank ineptitude. We should be the ones taking notes and absorbing lessons from them.

What is there not to like about what they are doing? Follow them on Twitter and marvel at how they have built a gorgeous ecosystem totally independent of the rickety government institutions of the day and leveraged it to garner global attention and resources (bitcoins! Wow!) to do what they need to do.  In declaring that they are no leaders, each one of them has become the led and the leader. Amazing. I learnt something: If there is an alignment between the led and the leader, we all become leaders. To them, I say, bravo and continue the fight to reclaim your space from the myrmidons of your nightmares! #EndSARS!
