#EndSARS: Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo Assures Nigerians Buhari is Committed to Police Reform

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has made known in a series of tweets on Wednesday afternoon that the Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari “is committed” to “resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria”.

The Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo called for calm and “the use of dialogue” in resolving the crisis, revealing that he has spoken to President Buhari who he assured “had begun the processes that will lead to reform”.

On Tuesday, October 20, Nigerian soldiers stormed the Lekki area that had served at the headquarters of the #EndSARS protests against police brutality and extortion, killing between 9 to 40 young people according to various estimates.

Ghanaians as well as Nigerians criticized the Ghanaian’s president’s intervention, criticising him for waiting until lives were lost to make his intervention. President Akufo-Addo is the current chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the regional organization for political and economic integration.

The Nigerian energy and infrastructure expert, Rolake Akinkugbe-Filani tweeted, “Unbelievable. But his own people don’t even deserve the dignity of a national address? We who are hurt and devasted by what is happening?”
