EFCC Investigates Bribery Allegations Against Officers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into bribery allegations against some of its officers.

This statement was made following a viral video shared by Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan on social media.

In the video, Nigerian celebrity Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, alleged that certain EFCC officers accepted N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

Both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan have been officially invited to the Commission’s Lagos Directorate to assist with the inquiry.

Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, stated, “The EFCC is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, courage, and professionalism. The Chairman has constituted a team of investigators to handle this case, and the findings will be made public.”

The EFCC has reassured the public that the investigation will be transparent, reiterating its zero tolerance for corruption within the agency.

Recall that the allegations surfaced after Bobrisky’s earlier arraignment on six charges of naira abuse and money laundering, with two charges eventually dropped following an agreement with the EFCC’s legal team.

However, Bobrisky was convicted of abusing the country’s currency.

In the same vein, Bobrisky, has denied allegations that he paid N15 million to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers to have money laundering charges dropped against him.

Responding via Instagram on Wednesday, Bobrisky firmly rejected the bribery claims, stating that he served his jail term in full and never paid any money to EFCC officials.

He described the circulating audio as fake, urging the public to disregard the false information.

“My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet that I paid EFCC 15 million naira, and that I was never in prison… I didn’t pay any EFCC money, which is a very big lie. I served my term in full, and I came out. Discard any false information,” Bobrisky wrote.
