Edo GUBER: Nigerians react as INEC assures uploading of results to IReV If there are no network issues

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured voters of electronic transmission of votes in real time if there are no network issues.

This was made known by Anugbum Onuoha, the resident electoral commissioner for Edo State, during an interview on Arise TV on Saturday morning.

Onuoha said the election process has been perfected with necessary backups if need be.

“Results will be uploaded to IReV if there are no network issues,” the REC said

He added that BVAS will accredit voters to ascertain the total number of voters at each polling unit.

However, scores of Nigerians on X have reacted to assurances, expressing doubt.

Many cited their experiences in the last general elections, adding the national electoral commission reneged on its promises.

Mr ID wrote: “I don’t know why they keep using network as an excuse. I have explained this over and over again to all these fake and unrealistic so called profs and PhD holders without shame of failure.”

“There has to be network. No excuse concerning network issues will be accepted. Just upload all results real-time whether network is available or not. The BVAS is made in such a way that it will automatically upload and deliver all data sent to it where there’s no network as soon as it gets to where there is network, just like text or WhatsApp messages. So, do the right thing and save your integrity”, Chief Sanitarian said.

A user by the name of Nigeria noted, “Until the process of transmitting election results is made compulsory, Nigeria will keep getting our results manipulated.”

Daoman wrote, “If it’s the same IREV were results from polling units were uploaded during the presidential elections,The Edo voters are done for.”

The Edo 2024 election is in progress as electoral officials have started the accreditation process amid heavy security.

Onuoha however said he “will conduct an election we can truly call our own”.

The gubernatorial election, consisting of 16 male candidates and one female will see incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki leave office that he’s been in for the past eight years.

The three leading candidates are Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), and Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
