The ongoing gubernatorial election in Edo State has received overwhelming attention from Nigerians.

This is as the popular artist, David Adedeji Adeleke aka Davido and the People’s Democratic Party member, Dele Momodu, slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over what they termed as poor conduct of polls.

Davido, who took to his X handle on Saturday, vented his displeasure over INEC’s handling of the exercise, describing the body as shameless.

Similarly, Dele Momodu described the process as shabby, alleging irregularities unbecoming of a free, fair and credible poll.

“My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election … but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha .. @inecnigeria shame on you I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun ! It’s really bad . God help us”, Davido wrote.

Momodu said, “I’m watching different television channels and social media platforms covering the Governorship election in Edo State. I must say how distressing, disgusting and depressing it is that at this time and age we are finding it hard to conduct a simple and transparent process… SHAME.”

Mixed reactions from Nigerians on Ongoing Edo 2024 Elections

In light of the ongoing process, scores of Nigerians have taken to the social media to express mixed reactions over the development.

While many Nigerians acknowledged the seeming incapacity of the electoral body to conduct free, fair and credible elections, others accused David and Momodu of being selective in their judgements.

David Regha, a social media influencer, wrote: “Davido so if ur mom isn’t from Edo State u willn’t speak up? Why didn’t u join Nigerians in 2023 to call-out & criticize the INEC, or the presidential election wasn’t held in Edo State? U concern for Nigerians is very questionab!e cos ur interest in politics seems to be all about se!f-interest.”

“No other artist comes out to call out the INEC during elections the way you do. It shows that you have the interest of the people at heart. May God continue to bless you”, David of fcf said.

Egugun of Africa also noted, “INEC have never thought about doing the right thing, if not why invest billions on BVAS then turn around to tell us, it was not used in the general election. May God help this country.”

“One other guys said he stopped talking about elections coz he was betrayed by his people, very stupeed take”, Somto wrote.
