Dr. Olabisi D. Akinkugbe, the Purdy Crawford Chair in Business Law and Associate Professor at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University, Canada has been elected to serve as one of the Executive Vice Presidents of The Society Of International Economic Law (SIEL).
Dr. Akinkugbe’s election was announced at the 2024 AGM of the Society Of International Economic Law (SIEL) held on December 5, 2024. Before his recent appointment, Dr. Akinkugbe had served as the Viscount Bennett Professor of Law at the Schulich School of Law and was convenor of the annual Viscount Bennett Roundtable on International Economic Law.
Dr. Akinkugbe also co-founded Afronomicslaw.org. with James T. Gathii to focus on all aspects of international economic law as they relate to Africa and the Global South.
The Society of International Economic Law (SIEL) is a membership organization for academics and academically-minded practitioners and officials in international economic law, in all parts of the world.
The body organizes biennial global conferences that serve as platforms for discussing contemporary issues in international economic law. It also offers several prizes to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of international economic law, including the SIEL/JIEL/OUP Prize and the SIEL/Hart Prize and also operates an open membership for anyone interested in joining the organization.
