Denmark Updates Salary Standards for Skilled Work Visas in 2025

Denmark recently updated its wage statistics for the Positive List for Skilled Work, effective from February 20, 2025. These updates, managed by the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI), will influence how work permit applications are processed under this visa scheme.

The Positive List for Skilled Work is designed for occupations with a shortage of skilled labor in Denmark. It enables foreign workers to apply for both residence and work permits if they secure employment in one of the listed professions. The list is revised biannually, on January 1 and July 1.

Impact of Updated Wage Statistics

  • New Applications: Any work permit applications submitted on or after February 20, 2025, will be judged according to the new wage data.
  • Previous Applications: Applications made before this date will adhere to the old wage statistics.
  • Job Classification: Each job on the list is assigned a DISCO-08 code for clear job categorization.

Salary and Employment Conditions

For foreign workers:

  • Compliance with Danish Standards: Salaries, holidays, and notice periods must meet Danish legal requirements.
  • Salary Components: Employers are generally restricted from including unpredictable elements like bonuses or commissions in salary calculations.
  • Payment Method: Salaries must be deposited into a Danish bank account, encompassing liquid wages, pension contributions, and holiday allowances.

Revised Salary Standards

From January 1, 2025, SIRI has adjusted the minimum income thresholds to ensure salaries are competitive with Danish norms:

For Jobs Without Collective Agreements: A minimum monthly salary of about DKK 74,958 is required.

Other Work Visa Options

If your profession demands higher education, consider the Positive List for the Highly Educated. Other visa pathways include:

  • Pay Limit Scheme
  • Fast Track Scheme
  • Researcher’s Scheme
  • Supplementary Pay Limit Scheme

Employer Responsibilities

Employers must fulfill certain obligations for their foreign employees to be eligible for the Skilled Work visa:

Apprenticeship Training: Employers must comply with Denmark’s apprenticeship training requirement (Læreplads-AUB) before an application can proceed.

The introduction of new wage statistics in Denmark signals a pivotal change for foreign workers aiming to secure employment. Potential applicants must review the latest Positive List for Skilled Work and ensure their prospective employer adheres to all current regulations.
