Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have released a series of emails in which Jeffrey Epstein allegedly suggested that Donald Trump was aware of his sexual abuse of underage girls and “definitely knew about the girls.”
The emails, reportedly exchanged between Epstein and associates in the years before his 2019 arrest, were made public as part of a renewed Democratic push to examine what they describe as the former president’s “longstanding proximity” to the disgraced financier.
Trump has repeatedly denied any involvement in or knowledge of Epstein’s sex-trafficking activities. He has also claimed he severed ties with Epstein “many years ago,” long before the financier’s criminal prosecution and death. Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan federal jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
Released Emails
In a statement released Tuesday, Democratic members of the Oversight Committee said the emails “raise serious questions about Donald Trump and his knowledge of Epstein’s horrific crimes.” They added that the correspondence “underscores the need for transparency and accountability from those who enabled or ignored Epstein’s predatory behavior.”
The newly surfaced emails have reignited political and public debate surrounding Epstein’s vast network of influential connections, which spanned global business leaders, academics, and politicians from both major U.S. parties. Democrats have called for the Department of Justice to reopen portions of its investigation, arguing that previous inquiries left “critical questions unanswered” about who may have helped facilitate or conceal Epstein’s activities.
The controversy continues to ripple through Washington, coming just four months after Trump’s Justice Department formally closed its review of Epstein-related matters, declaring there was “no additional information to share.” That decision drew criticism from some lawmakers, who accused the administration of prematurely ending oversight into Epstein’s network and possible co-conspirators.
Republicans have largely dismissed the latest release as politically motivated. A spokesperson for Trump’s campaign described the emails as “baseless fabrications recycled by Democrats desperate to distract from their own failures,” adding that “President Trump had no knowledge of or connection to Epstein’s crimes.”
