Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has publicly praised President Bola Tinubu for his transformative leadership in Nigeria’s infrastructure and flood control initiatives. In an open letter titled “Appreciation,” shared via X by Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, Dangote highlighted the Eko Atlantic City project and nationwide superhighway developments as exemplary achievements.
The Eko Atlantic City, a 1,000-hectare reclaimed land project protected by an 8.5-kilometer sea wall, has shielded Victoria Island from coastal erosion. Dangote commended Tinubu’s foresight, noting its role in ending ocean surges that once plagued streets like Ahmadu Bello Way and Adetokunbo Ademola.
This ambitious land reclamation mirrors successful projects like Zeeland, Netherlands, where submerged land was transformed for agriculture and settlement. Dangote called it a testament to Tinubu’s ingenuity, creating a modern city for residential, business, and recreational purposes.
Beyond flood control, Dangote lauded Tinubu’s infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway. The latter, a revival of a 48-year-old initiative, is managed by Hitech Construction Company, showcasing Nigeria’s engineering prowess.
Dangote drew parallels between Nigeria’s efforts and global flood management successes, emphasizing the Bar Beach project’s impact on Victoria Island’s livability. He stated, “Those of us who live in Victoria Island are much better off for it,” crediting Tinubu’s legacy.
The letter also addressed a recent flash flood in Kerr County, Texas, which claimed over 100 lives, underscoring the importance of proactive flood control. Dangote Industries extended condolences, reflecting its commitment to corporate social responsibility.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation announced plans to contribute to a Climate Fund targeting Nigeria’s flood-prone regions. This initiative aims to bolster resilience in vulnerable communities, aligning with global climate action trends.
Bayo Onanuga, reacting to Dangote’s letter, described it as an “honest assessment” of Tinubu’s leadership, countering opposition claims of inaction over the past two years. The commendation highlights Tinubu’s tangible contributions to Nigeria’s infrastructure landscape.
Tinubu’s administration has prioritized sustainable urban development, with projects like Eko Atlantic City setting a global standard for coastal management. These efforts position Nigeria as a leader in innovative infrastructure solutions in Africa.
Dangote’s endorsement underscores the economic and social benefits of Tinubu’s policies, from job creation to enhanced urban resilience. As Nigeria tackles climate challenges, these initiatives signal a robust framework for sustainable growth.
The Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry superhighways promise to boost connectivity and economic activity across Nigeria. These projects, combined with flood control measures, reflect Tinubu’s vision for a modern, resilient nation.
Dangote’s letter serves as a call to recognize Nigeria’s strides in infrastructure and environmental management. His praise reinforces Tinubu’s role in driving progress, ensuring Nigeria’s cities and highways are built to withstand future challenges.
