Columbus Irosanga: Celebrated Nollywood Actor and Academic Passes Away

The Nigerian entertainment industry mourns the loss of veteran Nollywood actor and esteemed academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga, who passed away on February 6, 2025. Renowned for his compelling portrayals of native doctors, Irosanga’s death was announced by fellow actress Hilda Dokubo on Instagram. She expressed her grief, stating, “There can’t be a shortage of angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood.”

Born and raised in Okrika, Rivers State, Columbus Irosanga was deeply rooted in his cultural heritage. He pursued higher education in Theatre Arts, culminating in a doctorate degree. His academic journey led him to the University of Port Harcourt, where he served as a senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, mentoring numerous aspiring actors.

Acting Career

Irosanga’s acting career was marked by versatility and depth. He gained prominence for his role as “Igbudu” in the 2001 Nollywood classic “Isakaba,” where he portrayed a powerful chief priest. This role cemented his reputation as a formidable actor capable of bringing complex characters to life.

Throughout his career, he featured in several notable films, including:

  • “Stigma” (2013): Portrayed the role of Uncle.
  • “Chike Naija” (2010): Played Mr. Peter.
  • “Dons in Abuja” (2004): Featured as an influential character.
  • “Python King” (2007): Took on a significant role.

His performances were lauded for their authenticity and emotional resonance.

Dr. Irosanga’s exceptional talent earned him several accolades, including:

  • Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
