Canada has officially reopened the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for 2025, giving permanent residents and citizens a chance to bring their parents or grandparents to live with them permanently.
This year, only people who submitted an interest in to sponsorship form in 2020 and have not received an ITA between 2020 and 2024 are eligible.
Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)
The PGP allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residence, giving them access to healthcare, social benefits, and the ability to live in Canada indefinitely.
This year, 17,860 invitations will be sent, while only 10,000 completed applications will be accepted. Invited applicants would have to submit two online forms through IRCC’s Permanent Residence Portal by 11:59 p.m. ET on October 9, 2025.

- Permanent Residence Application (submitted by your parent or grandparent)
Both applications must be submitted :
- If sponsoring multiple parents or grandparents, each requires a separate PR application.
- Paper submissions are only allowed in rare cases with special approval.

Application Fees
The base cost for one parent or grandparent is CAD $1,205, broken down as:

Additional fees apply for spouses, partners, or dependent children, plus third-party costs like medical exams and police certificates.
Key Follow-Up Documents
Once your application is submitted, IRCC will require you to:
- Complete medical exams (instructions will be sent)
- Provide police certificates (must be less than one year old)
- Submit biometrics (for applicants aged 14–79)
