Breaking: ASUU Calls Off Two-Week Warning Strike

ASUU threatens strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially suspended its two-week nationwide warning strike that paralyzed academic activities in public universities across Nigeria.

The decision was announced Wednesday during a media briefing at the union’s national headquarters in Abuja.

ASUU National President, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, addressed journalists and confirmed that the suspension followed urgent interventions by the Nigerian Senate and other prominent stakeholders.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) has resolved to suspend the warning strike and grant the federal government a one-month grace period to fully address all outstanding issues,” Prof. Piwuna stated.

The strike, which began last week, was declared to press home demands over unpaid salaries, university funding, earned academic allowances, and the implementation of previous agreements with the government.

While normal academic activities are expected to resume immediately, ASUU warned that failure to meet the new deadline could trigger a more prolonged industrial action.
